Today we celebrate the life of Martin Luther King Jr. I’d like to remind us all that it isn’t just about another day off work or school. This man devoted his life to civil rights. He yearned for the day all people can be treated equally. So instead of sharing a quote (or similar), I wanted to share a few resources that could be helpful and are supportive of Black families.
Over the past few years, I’ve realized that the representation of people of color in the pregnancy, birth and parenthood communities is severely lacking. As recently mentioned in a New York Times article, giving birth as a person of color is a risk. A risk purely associated just by the color of the birthing person’s skin.

As an inclusive business, Buffalo Family Doulas would like to make an intentional commitment to continue to educate ourselves on racial disparities in the birthing (and parenting) communities. We are also planning on giving back to communities of color through various outreach efforts this year as well. We will continue to bring awareness to different resources and businesses and hope you will join us in this effort.
